Did you know that "80% of YA novels are now purchased by adults, with the vast majority of those purchases being for the adults themselves"? What Can Data Tell Us?: An Agent's Thoughts on the 2015 Nielsen Children's Book Summit by Stephen Barbara is an interesting look at publishing data and its implications. Blogging friends: Sign-ups for the A to Z Blogging Challenge are now open! Last year, I blogged about Productivity for Creative People from A to Z. I collected these posts on Pinterest or you can access them through this Reflection post about last year's challenge. I plan on participating again this year. Are you an adult you reads YA? (I am!)

I love to read YA (and also MG). It's surprising how many people (mostly women) come into the library for a particular popular book and then feel embarrassed to learn it is a YA book. I always tell them: 'we all read YA!' Young adult fiction is often just that little bit more exciting, don't you find? It also reminds us of our youth and helps keep me in touch with what life is like for the younger generation today :) I think this is quite important for anyone involved in teaching. Everyone should read a bit of YA - it's too good to miss! I am 46 and I am a huge reader of YA fiction. I find the stories more interesting, the characters more likable and you don't have three pages describing a particular scene. I read a lot of dystopia and very little romance and when there is a romance involved, its not over the top. Not too long ago there was something floating around the internet about adults reading YA, and it wasn't too complimentary. I'll pick up a YA book now and again. I tend to keep to more adult fare usually, but I have nothing against a good YA book if it piques my interest. (Or an MG book for that matter.)

I used to read a lot of YA, but haven't read much lately. I HATEHATEHATE love triangles and since that the latest trend, I have been avoiding YAs.

This was the biggest surprise I had when I started writing YA. I expected teen readers, and suddenly grandmothers were writing to me, telling me they read my books. Comments are closed.
