If so, what happened to make you come back to writing?
I spent last weekend at the NJ SCBWI annual conference, where I had the chance to tell writers about IWSG as a source of information and encouragement. I was proud to sign books there, including the new IWSG anthology, Hero Lost: Mysteries of Death and Life. Every month, IWSG poses an optional question that members can answer in their blog posts. This month’s question: Did you ever say “I quit”? If so, what happened to make you come back to writing? I haven’t quit yet, although there are two projects (“starter novels,” so-to-speak) that I have abandoned. My debut, Pandemic (published by Sky Pony Press in 2014), was actually the fourth novel I had written. I would encourage writers not to stop after their first, second, or even third attempts at creating a story. Special thanks to Alex Cavanaugh for founding the group, and to this month’s blog hop co-hosts: JH Moncrieff, Madeline Mora-Summonte, Jen Chandler, Megan Morgan, and Heather Gardner. Please share your thoughts on quitting, the creative journey, and other writerly stuff in the comments.

I'm so proud to have been on this journey with you! Let's just keep going. 6/7/2017 03:31:41 pm
I'm totally with you there. It wasn't until I had my 7th book completed that I landed a deal for my 2nd one. If we're writers, that's what we should keep doing, eh? 6/8/2017 10:50:33 am
Glad to hear the NJ conference went well. Great quote from Ella! 6/8/2017 01:21:33 pm
Great picture and it's awesome you were able to share about our wonderful IWSG at the conference. 6/8/2017 09:28:32 pm
I've definitely had plenty of stories I quit writing, but they were usually ones that had shoddy plots. 6/9/2017 04:32:01 pm
Sorry I'm late!

I love that quote!!! What a beautiful picture of you at the conference. It looks and sounds like you had fun!!! 6/10/2017 03:18:01 pm
We all abandon some projects. I did too, either while I learned, so it was a lesson recording more than a story or when the story didn't work and I didn't know how to fix it. But you persevered, and it paid off. Keep going, and the outcomes would be even better. 6/10/2017 06:38:18 pm
Oh, I love it! You look great with your display of Hero Lost. Big hugs. 6/19/2017 07:20:30 pm
I love that pic of you promoting Hero Lost. The conference must've been so great! 7/29/2017 05:28:59 pm
Great to have a chance to show off the anthology at the conference! I think it's very rare that first books get published. Those first few books should be treated as stepping stones to learning more about our craft. Glad you didn't give up! By the way, I nominated you for the Liebster Award. The details are at my blog if you want to play along. Comments are closed.
