Five Secrets about the AMY’S CHOICE Cover By Marcia Strykowski
2. The Location: It makes sense for Amy to be at the water’s edge, because AMY’S CHOICE takes place in a tiny fishing village on the coast of Maine. Amy is often drawn to the ocean to think, dream, and to watch her favorite painter create his beautiful landscapes.
3. The Lighthouse: There are close to 70 lighthouses in Maine. For hundreds of years, they have guided fishermen and sailors to safety along the rocky Maine coastline. Finn, the painter, maintains one of them. Amy has always wanted to tour a lighthouse. With much anticipation, she and her best friend Cat, climb to the top of Finn’s lighthouse.
4. The Mood: Amy looks lonely because she misses her old friend Craig. They used to hang out on the pier together. Will he ever return from Boston? In the first book, CALL ME AMY, Craig and Amy nurtured an abandoned seal pup and then released him back to the ocean. Therefore, Amy misses Pup, too, and often goes to the pier in hopes of seeing him again (and she does!).
5. The Art: I have never met or corresponded with the cover illustrator/designer, but I think she did a wonderful job of showing a sense of character and story. The colors and type selection are a great choice, as well. Thank you very much for the beautiful cover, Rachel Marks!
