About the Evolution Revolution: Simple Machines Cover

Evolution Revolution: Simple Machines (Book 1) is the story of a gray squirrel, befriended by a young boy who names him Jack and teaches him about wheels, the first simple machine. When bulldozers and trucks come into Jack’s wood, threatening his tree, Jack thinks that with the help of the other woodland animals, they can stop the machines--by using the wedge, another simple machine. Their war draws attention from the humans, and that won’t be good.

- All the animals featured on the cover are major characters in the novel.
- Jack, the gray squirrel, is in the center because he’s the main character (arguably the smartest of the animals).
- The wheel which Jack is holding is the catharsis for Jack’s learning how to use simple machines to make his life better, as it has for humans.
- The trees and branches surrounding Jack and the other animals represent the woods where they all live--and where their war on the construction machines will take place.
- The animals don’t wear suits, or use human things; they act and look like animals you might find in any wood. They are true to life (except they can talk to each other).
