I'm taking part in the Celebrate the Small Things blog hop this week. One small thing I'm celebrating is getting my daughter safely back to college and all set up in her dorm room for her sophomore year. We miss her already!
I also want to share a Friday Five this week. Here are five interesting blog posts and articles I read recently.
How to Stop Being Scared of Everything by Tim Lawrence. An interesting look at fear and five experiments to try.
Everything You Wanted to Know About Book Sales (But Were Afraid to Ask) by Lincoln Michel. An in-depth article explaining things like BookScan, earning out advances, and print runs, backed by data and statistics.
Internal Dialogue: The Greatest Tool for Gaining Reader Confidence by Elizabeth Sims. How authors can use internal dialogue and some mistakes to avoid.
On White Fragility by Justine Larbalestier. The white author of Liar discusses writing from a POC's point of view.
80s Music Greats: Where Are They Now? I would argue that John Waite (of Bad English and The Babys fame) is hardly a one hit wonder, but this is still a fun slideshow.
What are you celebrating this week?

Oh I love everything 80s so I have to check that list out. Agree with you as well on John Waite. 8/19/2016 08:58:10 pm
I need to read the first article, for sure. I didn't take my cat to the vet for months because I was afraid they would tell me his kidneys were failing or he was diabetic. He's a feisty guy and I knew giving him medications and/or fluids would be near impossible. So I waited and waited and today, I finally found out he has hyperthyroidism. Not great, but the medication can be applied as a cream in his ear. That might just work. Whew! 8/20/2016 12:58:31 pm
Here's wishing a great year to your daughter! Our son just started his 2nd year too, but he's at home--campus is close enough. 8/21/2016 05:57:45 pm
Those look like an interesting collection of blogs. No, John Waite was no one-hit wonder. I wonder if the person writing it knew that he was in those bands.

Kids leaving for college is always a mixed emotional time. You want them to go and start their independent lives, but you want them with you, too. Quite a transition. 8/23/2016 08:00:29 am
Nice roundup of blog links and I hope your daughter has a wonderful school year! 8/24/2016 05:44:17 pm
Good work getting your daughter settled in! I'm grateful my son is attending next to home so I don't have to stress about him going elsewhere. 8/26/2016 10:55:35 pm
Good luck to your daughter! I hope she has a great school year! Thanks for all the links. I'll be checking out the book sales info and the 80s music (my favorite decade for music).

I just sent my daughter to college for her sophomore year! We have that in common too. I do miss her and can't believe summer with her just flew by. Comments are closed.
