When you think of the term working writer, what does that look like to you? What do you think it is supposed to look like? Do you see yourself as a working writer or aspiring or hobbyist, and if latter two, what does that look like?

One way to consider the term “working writer” is to consider whether we are working to improve at our craft. That's something all writers, no matter where they are in their careers, can embrace. We can improve by reading and analyzing what works (or what doesn't) in published stories. We can improve through a critique group or online workshops. We can improve through continuing to write, doing the work, showing up at the page.
Chinua Achebe said, " . . . a budding writer wants to be encouraged. But I believe myself that a good writer doesn’t really need to be told anything except to keep at it."
