Do you write YA, middle grade, chapter books or picture books? Check out KidLit Summer School, a free online program for writers. If you'd like a peek into my plotting process, check out my summer school guest post to see my messy notebook and my much neater plot chart.
This quote by Ira Glass is one of my favorites because it applies to many situations: definitely our creative lives, but also learning other new things. The gap is the difference between reading an awe-inspiring book and then reading your own crappy first draft. It's also the difference between learning a new kata in the martial arts, then watching someone stellar perform the same moves. Do you have gaps that you're mindful of?
A special thank you to Charlotte, the Swedish gardener and biologist behind "My Green Nook," for nominating my blog for the Versatile Blogger Award. I'm honored! You can check out Charlotte's blog here.
Have a versatile and creative weekend!
Social Media for Writers: Follow up to last week
Special thanks to Hilary Sierpinski for her guest post about social media for writers last week. As a follow up, I've assembled the links she recommended, plus some of my own favorites.
Transmedia (which Hilary helpfully defined: multiplatform storytelling with each piece bringing something new to the story world, with an emphasis on audience immersion and interactivity)
I'm happy to feature a guest post from Hilary Sierpinksi for today's Friday Five. Social media for authors (and other creative people) is a topic that fascinates me, so I was thrilled when Hilary, who works as the Publicity Manager at The Story Plant, agreed to share five tips.
Bonus: she has also agreed to answer related questions in the comments! This is a great opportunity--see the details at the end of the post.
On a separate note: I will be creating a monthly newsletter for people who would like to receive exclusive book content, author news, future sale info, and other goodies. The sign-up form just went live this week! Be one of the first to join at the top right sidebar or click here.
Now, on to the guest post!
